This week in Science
lessons, Year 6 were investigating the effects of light filters.
Last week we learned
that ‘white’ light is actually made up of all the colours of the spectrum, and
that refracting the light through a glass or plastic prism causes the different
colours of the spectrum to become visible. This is because the different
colours travel at different speeds and refract at different rates, meaning they
actually refract at slightly different angles.
We investigated what
kinds of effects looking at objects through coloured filters had; we found that
the filters made everything look different…
For example, looking at
a yellow object through a red filter made it appear orange, and looking at the
same yellow object through a blue filter made it appear yellow! We then
remembered about colour theory, and how to mix the 3 primary colours (red,
yellow and blue) to make the secondary colours.
